Design: ATLAS PROJECTOS.

Fabel / Fábula / Fabel
André Sousa / Tobias Hering
On the occasion, a book will be published which has been a collaboration of André Sousa with Tobias Hering.

Using the centre folds as an axis, this book develops a visual faux-narrative from its extremes to the centre, recalling a travel or dream through different geographies, wondering about the unity of one's speech and one's position towards images and reality. Through the repetition of objects or subjects this line up of images avoids the construction of hierarchy in images, and produces both a déjà vu strangeness’ effect and a night and day cycle. This book shows for the first time a wider group of photos by Sousa revealing new layers or bringing clues for trackers on his work.
The essay by Tobias Hering took its departure from conversations with André Sousa during his residency in Berlin and the process of conceiving an installation for “Studio 2” at Künstlerhaus Bethanien. The writing roamed freely along associative tracks, probing other texts and facts of everyday life for support, or second thoughts. The text was meant to become a fellow traveller for the visual narrative: alert, entertaining, and tolerating silences. The original German has been translated into Portuguese by Bruno Duarte and into English by Millay Hyatt.
The book “Fabel / Fábula / Fable” is published by Künstlerhaus Bethanien with the kind support of Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and The Embassy of Portugal in Berlin/ Instituto Camões. It will be distributed by Künstlerhaus Bethanien and is available at the opening at a special price. Book design by ATLAS PROJECTOS.
